Your photo and its metadata stay in your browser. They are not uploaded or included in product analytics. Read our privacy policy

What photo information is removed?

Remove GPS coordinates, camera and lens details, serial numbers, dates, author names, captions and comments from JPG, PNG and WebP photos. The tool removes whole EXIF, XMP and IPTC blocks rather than just a list of known tags, while keeping a minimal orientation tag when needed. Embedded previews, PNG text and appended file data are removed too.

What stays in the photo?

The image is not recompressed. Colour profiles and display settings are kept by default so the photo looks right. If a colour profile is found, you can choose to remove it too; that may change colours. Removing metadata does not hide faces, street signs, watermarks or information encoded in the picture itself.

Starting with an iPhone HEIC photo?

This tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. Convert a HEIC photo to JPG first if your phone has saved it in that format. Conversion is a separate step and can change the image encoding.

Check the downloaded copy

The details panel shows what was found in your chosen photo. Large or unreadable blocks are summarized and still removed. Your original file stays unchanged, so share the downloaded copy. A file manager may show a new creation date or file size even after private metadata has gone.

Limitations

  • Supports still JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 25 MB and 24 megapixels, with a maximum of 12,000 pixels on either side. HEIC, GIF and animated images are not supported.
  • Colour profiles are kept by default and can contain descriptive text. You can remove them too, but colours may change. Display orientation and rendering settings are retained.
  • Metadata removal does not hide visible text, faces or landmarks, remove watermarks embedded in pixels, or make a photo anonymous.

Questions

How do I remove metadata from a photo?

Choose your photo, review the detected information, select Remove metadata and download the cleaned copy. It is free and does not require an account.

Does this remove GPS location and EXIF data?

It removes supported EXIF photo details, including GPS tags, camera information and embedded previews. A minimal orientation tag is kept when needed to display the photo correctly.

Will removing metadata reduce photo quality?

The picture data is copied without recompression. Dimensions, transparency and display orientation stay the same. Colour profiles are kept by default; removing them with the optional control may change colours.

Can I remove photo metadata on my phone?

Yes. Open this page in a modern mobile browser, select a supported photo and download the cleaned copy. iPhone HEIC files need to be converted to JPG first.

Does this remove visible watermarks or SynthID?

No. Visible watermarks and invisible signals embedded in image pixels are separate from file metadata. This tool leaves the picture data unchanged.

Is the photo uploaded, and what happens to the original?

The photo is read and cleaned on your device. Downloading creates a new file called photo-clean. Your original is not changed, and closing the page clears the working copy from the tool.
