Horizontal vs vertical flip

A horizontal flip mirrors an image from left to right, which is useful for correcting a mirrored selfie or reversing the direction of a graphic. A vertical flip mirrors it from top to bottom.

Need to turn the image instead? Open Rotate Image.

What happens to image dimensions?

Flipping does not change the image width or height. It changes the direction of the pixels while keeping the same canvas size and crop.

Choose the right export format

  • Use PNG when you need transparency or lossless graphics.
  • Use JPG for smaller photo files and broad upload compatibility.
  • Use WebP when the destination accepts it and you want a modern, compact image format.

Limitations

  • Flipping mirrors the image but does not rotate or crop it; use the rotate or crop tools when you need a different frame.
  • SVG inputs are rasterized on export, and animated GIF inputs export only their first frame.
  • Exporting to JPG removes transparency because JPG does not support transparent pixels.
