How to combine receipt photos into one PDF
By Sekora Studios · Updated
Photograph or save each receipt, add the images to Image to PDF in date or trip order, and download one PDF. If the file is too large for email, compress the photos first, then build the PDF again. The PDF is image-based, so amounts on the receipt cannot be searched as text.
Steps
- Collect JPG, PNG or WebP photos of the receipts. Convert HEIC shots to JPG if they came from an iPhone.
- Open Image to PDF and add files in the order you want an accountant or portal to read them.
- Use A4 or Letter pages and fit so the whole receipt stays visible, including totals at the bottom.
- Create and download the PDF. If an email client rejects the attachment, compress the photos and repeat.
Keep totals readable
Fit mode is usually better than fill for long till rolls, because fill can crop the total. Check the last line of each page in the preview.
Very long receipts may look small on an A4 page. Photograph them in sections and keep those photos in order.
Email size
A handful of phone photos can exceed common 10 MB or 25 MB attachment limits. Compress each photo toward a few hundred KB before you build the PDF if you already know the mailbox limit.
More questions
Does this extract amounts from the receipt?
No. It places the photos on PDF pages. You still read totals from the picture.
Should I strip location data from the photos?
If the receipts stay as image files as well, run Remove metadata on those photos. The PDF itself does not keep image metadata.
