SafeImageTools, TinyPNG, iloveimg.com, and Squoosh

By Sekora Studios · Updated

SafeImageTools compresses, converts, and resizes a photo in your browser. TinyPNG is a compress service that sends the file to their servers. iloveimg.com is a larger image-tool site, and many of its tools upload the file. Squoosh also compresses in the browser, one image at a time. Photoshop and Photoshop Express are full editors. Use them when you need layers and brushes. Use the browser tools when you need a smaller file, another format, or a new size.

Compress an image

Steps

  1. If you only need a smaller file, open Compress image and set a size in KB or MB.
  2. If you need JPG, PNG, or WebP, open Convert image.
  3. If a form names pixels, open Resize image.
  4. Read the other site's current privacy page before you upload a private photo there.

Where the photo goes

On SafeImageTools, compress, convert, resize, crop, and metadata removal stay in the browser. Background removal and background blur are the exception: those upload the photo, and the job files are deleted within 24 hours.

TinyPNG's own site describes server-side compression. iloveimg.com's tools generally upload. Squoosh runs in the browser. Check their pages if the wording has changed, because product pages move.

What you can do for free

Ordinary single-image edits on SafeImageTools do not ask you to sign in. Batch work past the free allowance uses credits. TinyPNG and iloveimg.com publish their own free limits. Squoosh does not add an account.

SafeImageTools does not stamp a watermark on these downloads. If another site's free plan adds one, that will be on their pricing page.
