How to compress an image to 100 KB
By Sekora Studios · Updated
Open Compress Image, choose your file, select the 100 KB preset, and compress. The download stays at or below 100 KB when that size is reachable. Very detailed photos may lose sharpness or pixel size to fit.
Steps
- Open Compress Image and choose a still JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Select the 100 KB target. Keep JPG or WebP when you need a photographic file; PNG may need smaller dimensions.
- Compress and read the reported size. Open the preview at full view if text or faces matter.
- Download the result and upload that copy. Repeat with a slightly higher target if the image is too soft and the form allows it.
When 100 KB needs fewer pixels
Quality reduction is tried first. If the photo still sits above 100 KB, the compressor can reduce dimensions while keeping the aspect ratio.
A form that also names exact pixels should be resized first, then compressed. Check the final width and height after a small KB target.
50 KB and other presets
Use Compress Image to 50 KB when the form asks for 50 KB. Other presets include 20 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB and 1 MB, or a custom value of at least 5 KB.
More questions
Will a PNG stay a PNG at 100 KB?
You can keep PNG. Many PNG files only reach 100 KB after dimensions drop. Switch to JPG or WebP if the form allows it and you need more visual detail.
Can I do this on a phone?
Yes. Use a modern mobile browser and save the download from the browser prompt.
