Photo jobs students keep running into

By Sekora Studios · Updated

Match the sentence on the form to a tool. A square ID photo goes to the passport photo cropper, which exports 600 by 600 pixels. A slide image goes to the 16:9 crop. A "file must be under X KB" line goes to Compress image. An iPhone HEIC file goes to HEIC to JPG first. If the portal wants one PDF of scans, use Image to PDF after the photos look right.

Make a square ID photo

Steps

  1. Read the form. Write down pixels and the maximum file size.
  2. For a square ID photo that accepts 600 by 600, open the passport photo cropper and frame your face.
  3. For a widescreen slide, open the 16:9 crop.
  4. If the file is still too big, open Compress image and set the KB limit.
  5. Convert HEIC to JPG before any of those steps if the site rejects the iPhone file.

600 by 600 is a preset, not a rule

Some schools want that size. Others want 2 by 2 inches, a different pixel count, or a plain JPG under 200 KB. If the form names something else, use Resize image or the form-photo guide and follow their numbers.

Handing in scans

Photograph the pages, then add them in order in Image to PDF. The PDF is pictures of the pages. You cannot search the text inside it.

More questions

The portal says 100 KB. What do I open?

Compress image, and pick the 100 KB target. There is a short guide for that size.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. The same pages work in a phone browser.
